Aluminium Clad Steel Wire

Power Distribution
This application includes all cables used in the transmission and distribution of electrical power and Aluminium Clad Steel Wire (ACS Wire) which is used to support the mechanical loading encountered in overhead cables.

Also included in this market are copper busbars - products greater than 150mm wide can be produced using this process.

Transport
Our manufactured products are used as component parts for heat exchangers, tubes and airbag systems. Tubes from 3mm up to 55mm can be produced. We can also offer multi-void tubing for automobile applications. We have seen rapid growth in the use of aluminium for vehicle bodies based on aluminium panels and a structure made of extruded sections. As a result, we are able to offer manufacturers a more cost effective production route for extruded sections. Our produced materials are also being used by other transport industries including public sea and air transport.

Telecommunications
This market includes all wire and cable used for telephony and data transmission. The largest sector of this market is external telecommunications cable that includes optical ground wire (OPGW). Data cables represent a smaller segment in terms of volume of sales but have higher value and a rapid growth forecast. Data cables include community antenna television (CATV) cable amongst others.

Both OPGW and CATV can be produced on our machinery, offering a reliable production source for these high value added products. Our 300mm wheel and tangential shoe machine is the common production solution for these applications. This is widely used in the production of CATV cables to extrude an aluminium sheath on to the cable core. The cladding eliminates interference from local radio waves and is, therefore, particularly useful in urban areas. The sheath also protects from moisture and reduces cable damage extending its useful life.
